The Viva Vivace evening of MAGS Classical performances was held at the Raye Freedman Arts Centre on June 29.
Audience members were treated to performances by both the Centennial and Gloriana Choirs, accompanied by Warwick Gibbs and Peter Walters respectively.
There were performances by several Chamber music groups that competed earlier in June at the NZCT Chamber Music Competition. These ensembles consisted of The Clan Quartet, The Moon Stars’ performance of an original work composed by MAGS student Vedant Sheth, and MAGnificent, made up of talented Year 12 students.
The Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Miss Anna Cooper, contributed two stirring pieces – including, in her own words, a ‘heavy metal for strings’ composition by Ted Allen – Fire in the Forge.
To complete the evening, the Symphony Orchestra conducted by Mr Mark Bingham performed a selection of audience favourites that included Beethoven’s 5th Symphony, The Incredibles Theme and more.
Director of Music Mr Watson said, “The evening was a huge success and special thanks to QiQi Deng for photography, Rose Leader and co for videography, and Jude Wilson for the poster design.”
