Girls and boys taking Year 10 Health this term received a self-defence programme from professional instructors and the Police.
The aim of the unit was to give students knowledge and skills relating to safety and awareness of risk situations, how to avoid them, how to de-escalate them and the use of self-defence as a last resort.
Two practical lessons were given by instructors from Krav Maga Auckland, which works closely with schools throughout New Zealand. The final session was taken by a police officer to educate students about self-defence laws and public safety.
