MAGS’ Premier 1 and 2 Netball teams each dominated their divisions to win the Senior North Harbour Secondary Schools Tournament on Tuesday, 30 May.
Both teams won all their games, and both faced Westlake Girls High School in their finals. The top team won 30-17 and the Premier 2 team came from behind to win 24-22.
MAGS’ Director of Netball Ms Paula Smith said the Premier 1 team played confident, free flowing netball. Year 10 players Kalani Posinkovich and Aaliyah Rooney joined the top team as a development opportunity. All 11 players gained court time, including in the final.
“The day was about consolidating combinations, learning and developing confidence among the team,” said Ms Smith.
Captain Shaniah Morehu-Hunia led her team from the front and was backed up defensively and on attack.
The Premier 2 side were challenged but remained composed to come back from a 3 goal deficit at half time to beat Westlake in their final. Year 10 player Natasha Tipelu also gained a development opportunity with this team.
