The First XI Football Boys travelled to Mt Maunganui last weekend for a pre-season camp.
The squad of 17 players, including 2 goalkeepers, travelled down on Friday evening and were on the pitch first thing on Saturday morning with the sessions being held on the Number 1 Pitch at Otumoetai College.
The purpose of the camp was to bed in the playing model and philosophy for the squad for the season ahead, while also looking to further nurture the positive culture that saw the squad have the successes of last year, including being runners-up at the national secondary school champs.
The camp also gave the boys time to bond as a squad off the pitch, with several theory sessions also being presented.
They were also able to work with the new Playertek GPS units and vests that have been brought in to ensure that the Football programme is creating the best environment possible for our most talented players.
There were four shortened sessions over the two days as well as theory sessions, and they were also able to brave the chilly waters off the Mount Maunganui beach as part of their recovery.
Director of Football Peter Smith said, “Overall, the camp was a great success with all of the outcomes achieved. Huge thanks to Otumoetai College for the use of their facilities and to Otumoetai FC Director of Football Joe Dixon for his assistance and support over the weekend.”
The boys will continue to work to their periodised training model with several games to be confirmed for the following weeks prior to the start of the season on May 11.
