The combination of the Visual Art Department’s First Board Show with the Year 11 Business Studies Market was a big hit with students, staff and parents on Tuesday, 13 June.
Held in and around E Block, families were able to enjoy the food and drinks prepared by the Business Studies students between viewing art completed so far this year by Year 11-13 students of Painting, Design and Photography. Head of Visual Art Mr Bryn Corkery was pleased with the high standard of the work presented on the boards, which were the completed first stage of the students’ end of year portfolios.
Head of Commerce Mr. Andrew Maunder, says two Year 11 Business classes took part in the market. The busy selling on the night of the market is the last stage of a project that sees businesses formed, leadership roles taken and business plans developed. For these Year 11 students, selling to parents as well as their peers provides a new challenge and is natural step up from Year 10 Business. A wet and windy night made hot coffee and savoury treats popular, however, a range of products, from chocolate to bath bombs and even a shoe-shining service proved popular.
Mr Corkery and Mr Maunder said the event would become an annual highlight of the school calendar.
