MAGS finished 4th in the round robin so took on 1st placed Rangitoto College in the semi-final for Supercity. The first half was a great tussle for supremacy, MAGS were just as dominant as Rangi in the attack. The MAGS girls often found themselves behind the Rangi defence but the Rangi goalie played an absolute blinder. The MAGS girls had balls going at the goalie from all around the circle but the ‘keeper saved every one. MAGS’ Laura Polo also had her goal covered solidly until the second half when Rangitoto scored after 5 penalty corners in a row.
This seemed to rally the MAGS girls, and mention has to be given to Anjali Panchia who took a brilliant shot from the top of the circle but again it was saved. So, the game finished with 1-0 loss and great improvement since the previous game against Rangitoto. The First XI now plays off for 3rd/4th in the competition against Baradene. The team will finish in the top 12 schools of Auckland and North Harbour – a great achievement for the girls.
